| Network Twenty Blogroll We love to surf through blogs, even if we don't know the writers. When they're carried out with thoughtfulness or enthusiasm, they provide the same glimpse into someone else's life or thoughts that a novel or an essay does. Or the writers' humor may make them just plain fun. Is this simply voyeurism? Perhaps, but for us it's not so much about others' dirty laundry as it's about their differing perspectives on the common life experiences we all go through. It's a chance to see what it would be like to take a different path, or to see how someone else has handled a similar situation. We've decided to feature a periodically changing list of twenty-something blogs that we found interesting or amusing. Email contact@network-twenty.com to submit a blog for consideration (be sure to mention "blogroll" in the subject line).Sparklette - "white belugas = cute. white belugas wearing santa hats = cute x 2!" Adam J. Schmidt - "For example, while I have no doubt Huckabee would be quite adept at celebrating Christmas in the White House I have to ask if he’d be as comfortable leading the lighting of the Menorah during the yearly Hanukkah Reception. This may seem trite but when you’re out there billing yourself as a ‘Christan Leader’ you open yourself up to this line of questioning. Perhaps its just my New England upbringing; I prefer my leaders to be informed by their faith not defined by it." True Tales of a Caffeine Addict - "Possible titles for Mama Spears’s book that will never be released "Do as I say, Not as I do: Mothering" by Mama Spears." Constantly Coming of Age - "I feel like I'm becoming more Me, and I love it." I Am Not My Hair - "But I realized it was the things that Spoon wasn't doing, the artistic choices they so deliberately avoided, that made this album stand out." Divine Domesticity - "I am a lover of all things Martha Stewart, ugly pug dogs, baking, enjoying my family and having fun in life." (Great recipies!) Ex-Everything - "This is not one of those posts about what I’m thankful for because well, one of those posts a decade is plenty for me. I don’t even really like Thanksgiving. I don’t like turkey or stuffing or cranberries or pumpkin pie or lulling Native Americans into a false sense of security." Quarter Life Crisis - "It was enough to send me into a full-on daydream that I'd actually married Jordan Catalano, and that we'd run off together in his red Plymouth, with Buffalo Tom playing in the background. Me, I was wearing my plaid flannel jumper, purple tights and snow boots, while he was in his signature brown faux shearling-lined jacket and entirely too tight black choker. And we had a time. Oh yes, we did." quench zine - "I guess my point in making this post is to say that pro-choice means just that: pro-choice. I am all for a woman's right to make decisions about her own body, and that should include the decision to have a baby. Maybe this is something that we could all agree on?" Michelle & the City - "Even though I have long since abandoned my 'on the surface' attitude when it comes to personal relationships, I now know that some of the more hindering tendencies have yet to disappear." asexy beast - "'Oh, cool!' I thought. 'Because I'm not attracted to anyone, how would I ever know who to date? Wouldn't it be great if I could just decide by giving people a test?'" convoluted confusion - "It's really exciting that we both happen to be on the same peeing schedule. But this is NOT the time to discuss a project you want me to do. You know how everyone has to give us a project sheet two weeks in advance of wanting something? That rule applies to you, too." Coalition of the Thrilling - "If you can't tell, I'm romanticizing communes again. Shoot." Such Great Heights - "The second day won’t really be any better. You’ll realize that despite the splashy title and the fat paycheck that this isn’t really the direction you wanted to go in and, truly, you knew it all along. You just chose to ignore yourself." Gay Conservative Liberal - "This year, however, the lesson I finally learned was that we're all vested with the power of choice. We can choose how to react to situations—we can walk away in peace, or stay in rage." ...and hijinks ensued. - "I spend my day-to-day life in a city that is constantly changing. A few weeks' eschewal of a route will lead to the surprise spouting of seemingly random buildings into any spare gaps upon my return, like weeds in a neglected garden. It often feels that stepping out my front door means an automatic sort of awareness or vigilance, as though you need to pay attention, lest all the constant moving and transformation sweeps you off what falsely seemed like stable ground." Keira-anne.com - "I am in a new relationship—with myself. Actually, with my body in particular. I am a firm believer that if you love your body by nurturing it and filling it with good things, as you would a relationship, goodness will be reciprocated." The Lisa Show - "I meet every wave, and I ride it out." Jessica Pearl - "If I can turn down Josh's french toast, I can do anything." jamielorenz - "I felt like one of those accomplished women from a Jane Austen novel who have completely mastered the piano or some other instrument of skill and precision." | |
